can anyone advise me on what happened to the stones from the original houses of parliment
this piece of stone was given to us about 40 years ago and we were told it was from the orginal houses of parliment.
We thought no more about it until a short while ago when we found it at the back of our shed
It is about 14 inch square and carved .and the intials E C are engraved on the side.
WE would love to know if this is from the building.
can anyone help
thank you elizabeth

Elizabeth- Hi, thats a good question! To be perfectly honest I have no idea! I would recommend that you contact either, English Heritage or indeed, write to the Houses of Parliament themselves.I am sure they must have a Public enquiries Officer/Department or similar. May also be worth trying the internet-a google search would do it.Of course you may find some contact addresses in the resource section here in BAJR.Would be very interested in what you turn up.I`m sure the other contributers on BAJR will come up with something:D

EC stands for Edward the Confessor who built the original palace
What you have sounds like an historical relic from the Houses of Parliament. It is a piece of masonry worked from the original stone by 'London Stonecraft Ltd' and originally came with a piece of wood too. Mint in box together with a certificate from the Red Cross stating "I hereby certify that this stone was part of the structure of the Houses of Parliament damaged by enemy air raids on 10th May 1941. it would have been worth £38…. Here is an image of a complete example.
