Hey y'all! I've just found you lot and been reading your posts so thought I'd join in. So... here I am:D

I'm a first year field arch student at Bournemouth uni. I'm a mature student (ie it took me 10 years to decide which degree to do), and live with my fiance, and my folks - yes I know I'm 28 I should have a life by now but as I'm a poor student I'll try to get away with it for a bit longer... - in sunny Poole. [8D]

Anyone else on here from my neck of the woods?

Nicki :)

Hi,

28 is when I got into archaeology, and I know others who did it later in life. I think making a decision to study anything later in life makes for more committed learning. And if you plan to work in the profession you'll probably have the benefit of a more balanced perspective as well.

Welcome, and don't let the ranting put you off. We're all nice folk really.

Welcome, Stonecirclegirl (Gonna need an abbreviation for that!)Don't worry about the age thing, took me 20 years to get round to doing a degree! I'm currently languishing in the 2nd year so you've probably seen me about! good luck with the exams in May.

Thanks.:) I like to think that getting out into the 'real world' for a while before going to uni has given me some common sense too - though there are others who may disagree!

It's slightly scary going 'back to school' but I hope it will be worth it. About time I had a 'proper job' as my mother likes to call it (I'm not that sure she was talking abou archaeology at the time):D

Hi leg11aug, thanks for the good luck wish! Yep you're right I'm going to need an abbreviation - its already proving tricky when I sign in to the forum. Ooops.

You're in the 2nd year at Bournemouth - excellent! No doubt I've seen you around then! Is there a secret BAJR nod or handshake so I know who you are? Hehe:D

Yes. But if we told you we'd have to kill you... :DJust look for the dude pulling his hair out and cursing Gannt Charts.. there may be some justification for statistics, but 'Microsoft Project' is an abomination...}:)

Don't think I've come across Project yet - sounds like I'd know if I had!

I'll look out for you - trouble is don't most archaeology students fit that description this time of year? ;)

Maybe there should be a bajr survey of uni affiliations/ties. Might tell us something about which universities are most successfully producing actual post-grad field archies, as opposed to a bunch of graduates hopping off to do post-grad law/advertising etc. There seem to be a lot of Bradfordians knocking around here too, myself included.

D

Gizza job!!!!! ....please!!!!!

Dave I really dont think a diet of snack-a-jacks and german salami for a man of such gravitas. What would your hockey-playing thespian namesake think? Really... Dont knock offers of chocolate.

LOL!!!!! I think I've exausted my taste in german salami, and the caramel snack-a-jacks aren't really up to much unless you include the quality of being lighter than air amongst important dietary requirements!

I've moved onto the pizza and salad diet now! They balance each other out! :D[:p]:D

Hmm - potential obesity, high cholesterol, heart trouble, dental problems, spots, sticky fingers................

Have these hazards been identified in a Risk Assessment?:D

Indeed they have and the mitigation is as follows...

Eat many of them, open mouth and show others the mush as you chew, allow said loveliness to run down chin and mingle with facial hair.Alternatively, dissolve in nasal passage to save on dentine.....:D
