I am a geoarchaeology student at the University of Bradford currently working on my dissertation on Archaeology: Career or Exploitation?
Im looking at archaeology as a career from the undergraduates view - about to embark in a career in archaeology but am concentrating mainly on career prospects in field archaeology, starting off at the bottom of the career ladder - field archaeologist. Looking at pay, experience and qualifications needed, and what contracts are available. Then look at these up the scale of the field unit/organisation e.g. field archaeologist, assistant field archaeologist, head field archaeologist, project officer and manager. I need to find out these for as many units and organisations for this current moment and what these were like in 2002 and 1998.
I do have both the 1999 and 2002/3 profiling the professions thanx!
If you could help that would be extremely useful and appreciated!
I am also looking at peoples opnions on working conditions in field archaeology e.g. hygiene, toilet facilities, hot water, shelter, when to stop work in certain weather conditions etc on site. Compare it to other professions who work outside - on sites and compare.
Also looking at what the IFA offers archaeology and field archaeologists particulary - and compare to other professions.
If you would like to offer your opnion on these issues please e-mail me: helen_garrett_2002@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks
